You Must Have A Motive

If you want to diet successfully you MUST have a motive. Each person is different. What motivates one may not motivate another. You must have a strong motivation or else you're doomed to fail. It's very difficult to deny yourself favorite foods unless you have a very good reason to do so.

Why DO you want to lose weight? Is your answer the same as the last time you tried to diet and quit? If so, then apparently that reason wasn't good enough. You'll need to dig a little deeper to find a motive that will keep you inspired. For some people their motive to lose weight may be inspired by a special occasion such as an upcoming wedding, party, beach vacation or public event.

Sometimes people are motivated by emotional pain. Does your weight embarrass or humiliate you? I know that isn't a pleasant thought but in some cases it's the real motive. This type of pain can injure you emotionally and cause bitter experiences unless you turn it into a positive. Instead let those negative feelings inspire and motivate you toward your goal. For others the motive may be a health issue such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or fear of some future illness.

Maybe your motive isn't any listed here. You may desire to lose weight only because you don't like the way you look. That reason alone isn't good enough. You probably tried multiple diets already with that as your one and only motive and failed. There must be a deeper motivation. Find it.

Have you defined your strongest motivating factor yet? Whatever the motive you must never lose sight of the reason you are dieting. Place a photo or write a reminder of the reason you need to lose weight and place it someplace where you'll see it several times daily. The right motivation along with a plan of action equals results. Motivation is necessary if you hope to succeed in improving your weight and overall health.
